Walk A Mile In Her Shoes
February 18, 2012
Mardi Gras Parade/St Marys
An event designed to raise awareness of domestic violence in our community and raise funds for both Camden House and the Family Violence Task Force.

Who should be involved?
Honestly, our targeted audience is MEN; however, both men and women are invited to "walk the walk." We will
be asking MEN in leadership positions in our community (i.e., mayors, the Sheriff, chiefs of police, county
commissioners, city councilpersons, military leaders and business owners) to help raise awareness that
domestic and family violence will not be tolerated in our community.
Why high-heel shoes?
My undergraduate degree is in theatre. After we had our first script read-through, we were given the shoes that
would be worn on stage as the first part of the costume. There is something about getting the feel of the
character being portrayed that is enhanced by wearing those shoes.
In the same line of thinking, wearing high-heel shoes, preferably red, gives men a real "feel" for the character
being portrayed - a woman who has experienced (or perhaps died from) domestic and family violence.
But people might laugh at me for wearing high-heel shoes!
Yes, they will. And, we will laugh at each other. Guaranteed! As one walk a mile slogan goes, "Are you
man-enough to wear high-heels?" As a man, you will be walking on behalf of a woman who has experienced
domestic violence and stand with your community to proclaim, ZERO TOLERANCE on Domestic & Family
Violence.
How much does it cost to participate?
There is a $25 registration fee for the event. Because the Walk a Mile campaign is an international event, a part
of the fee goes to the Walk a Mile Movement; the rest of the registration fee goes to help Camden House and
the Family Violence Task Force in their mission to educate the community, empower victims and eradicate
domestic violence.
How do I register for the event?
The Walk a Mile Movement has contracted with Event Brite to handle online registration. Follow this link to
register:

As the event date gets closer, the Family Violence Task Force will send more information by mail or email
regarding the event. There is also a special online store that sells red high-heels specifically designed to men's
feet.
